Carevivor
I recently noticed a typo on our website. I meant to type “caregiver” but had accidentally written “careviver.”
Re-reading that word stopped me in my tracks.
Careviver. Survivor. My mind swirled.
As NICU parents care for their precious babes, we all understand survival mode—the unexpected, the trauma, the life put on pause. When you’re in it, so much is happening at once—so much is out of your control. And when it’s over? You’re a survivor.
I’ll always feel connected to other NICU parents. We can look at each other with empathetic eyes, knowing we’ve walked through the same doors.
NICU parents, you are survivors of a very difficult journey—one you didn’t write or plan for. If you’re currently in it –I don’t know the outcome of your journey, and I know it won’t be easy, but I know the One who is with you.
If you’re on the other side? I know the weird quiet, the post-traumatic stress, the processing, and the lasting mark it leaves. I’m forever changed by our NICU journey—for the better. All of it points to our deep need for a Savior in the midst of this broken world.
I’m a NICU Careviver.
